PARENT FAQs
1. What services are provided by the Athletic Trainers?
The Athletic Trainers at Spring Woods are healthcare professionals here to provide outstanding medical care to your student-athletes. This medical care includes emergency medical care during games and practices, evaluation of sports-related injuries, rehabilitation of sports-related injuries, wound care/first aid, doctor referrals, and concussion management. Our top priority is your student's safety.
2. When can my student receive treatment for their injury?
Students can receive treatment before school, during lunch, during their athletic period, or immediately after school. There may be times when we ask your student to attend treatment multiple times a day if they are injured.
3. When should my student report an injury?
Students should immediately report an injury if athletic trainers are present. If at an away game, the student should immediately alert a coach and any student athletic trainers present at the game and attend morning treatment the following day.
4. What if my student needs to go to a doctor?
We work closely with doctors at Methodist West Houston and Memorial Hermann Memorial City. We can assist in getting an appointment in a timely manner; however, it is the responsibility of the parent to contact the doctor's office and schedule an appointment. All injuries should be reported to the athletic trainers prior to seeing a doctor.
**If your student goes to a doctor, he/she must bring us a note from that doctor stating whether he/she is cleared to participate in sports along with any restrictions. He/she will not be allowed to participate until we receive a note that states he/she is cleared to return to sports activity.**
5. How does the school athletic insurance work?
Only injuries sustained while participating in a UIL sport will be covered by the school insurance IF you signed the acceptance form on Rank One. The school insurance is not accepted by all doctors, so please be aware of that when choosing where to send your child. Please report all injuries to the athletic trainers so we can make sure you are in-network with the school's insurance.
